Why Hypnotherapy for C/PTSD?

Hypnotherapy for PTSD and CPTSD in Norwich and London

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) are normal reactions to abnormal situations. They usually stem from a sense of inescapability from a single (PTSD) or continuous (CPTSD) threat to self. These can include, but not limited to, war, violent attacks, abuse, sudden death of a loved one and other life threatening events.

Symptoms can manifest immediately or lay dormant until a triggering event, with some resemblance to the original, is encountered. The nervous system can flare up with feelings and images of the original event and become debilitating to living a normal life.

As well as hypnotherapy for PTSD and CPSD, I use the evidence based approach of EMDR in order to fully process the trapped feelings/memories in the brain and body. New resources are integrated to give a sense of freedom and recovery.

Talking therapies, such as CBT, counselling and psychotherapy, can often prolong the trauma as they are effective only in the thinking brain, the cortex, but PTSD is throughout the feeling brain and nervous system and this is the area I work producing often rapid results.

Symptoms of PTSD (from PTSDuk):

Increased anxiety and emotional arousal

  • Hypervigilance (On constant ‘red alert’)
  • Intense physical reactions to reminders of the event (e.g. Pounding heart, nausea, muscle tension, sweating)
  • Irritability or outbursts of anger
  • Irrational and intense fear
  • Reduced tolerance to noise (hyperacusis)
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Being easily moved to tears
  • Panic attacks/anxiety/depression/mood swings
  • Feeling jumpy and easily startled
  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • Anger or aggressive behaviour
  • Tense muscles

Avoidance and numbing

  • Work-related or relationship problems
  • Inability to remember important aspect of the trauma
  • Loss of interest in activities and life in general
  • Sense of a limited future
  • Feeling numb and empty
  • Avoidance of people and places
  • Feeling isolated
  • Frequent periods of withdrawal into oneself

Re-experiencing the traumatic event

  • Flashbacks (Acting or feeling like the event is happening again)
  • Nightmares (either of the event or of other frightening things)
  • Feelings of intense distress when reminded of the trauma

Other common symptoms

  • Feeling suicidal
  • Self harm and self-destructive tendencies
  • Feeling distrustful and suspicious/blaming others
  • Guilt, Shame, embarrassment or self blame
  • Misuse of alcohol/drugs/gambling and/or food
  • Exhaustion
  • Seeking out high-risk/dangerous pursuits
  • Physical aches and pains
  • Over-reactions to minor situations
  • Fear of being alone and fear of being in crowds

Sufferers of PTSD can have chronically high levels of the stress hormone ‘cortisol’. Cortisol is important for your health, but too much of it can wreak havoc on your body and cause a number of unwanted symptoms.

The methods I use, including hypnotherapy for PTSD,  can safely and quickly restore the traumatized nervous system to balance in order for you to trust your responses to daily situations and start living your life again, free from the past and looking at the future in a new, positive and healthy way.

Who Should do it?

Hypnotherapy can be a powerful tool for managing C/PTSD as it allows individuals to safely confront and reprocess traumatic memories, reduce anxiety and stress, and promote long-term healing and resilience, all within a controlled and therapeutic environment, Do you:

What our clients say

Testimonials

For years I’ve suffered with excess sweating when in any situation where the focus is on me or I’m nervous, like giving a presentation or being around new people. This was really affecting my job as my job involved a lot of presentations and meeting new people! My mum has had hypnosis before so I thought I would give it a try. I don’t know how Paul did it but after one session I felt more confident and was able to lead a normal life without excess sweating, he even stuck my hand to my leg which I thought was brilliant!

I’ve suffered total hair loss through alopecia, I’ve had no more than three hairs on my body at one point since it began three years ago . . .
Paul had hair growing back on my head and face within 2 days of our first session… Three sessions and four weeks later. I’ve got at least a hundred fine white hairs on my head and around 30 scattered elsewhere. It seems to be growing again . .
I also feel STRONGER and BETTER . . . I can never thank Paul enough

Hi Paul, I hope you’re keeping well. I just wanted to get in touch to let you know that following on from the successes during your alopecia hypnotherapy trial, my hair continued to grow and has now fully recovered. For the first time in 11 years I have my curls back and I look like me again! My wigs are back in their box and I honestly can’t thank you enough for setting me on the path to getting all of this fixed. All the best.

After nearly thirty years of experiencing very bad panic attacks when driving or travelling anywhere out of my comfort zone. A friend suggested I contact Paul and see if there was anything that he could possibly do to help.
Amazingly after just two sessions of treatment, being a combination of hypnosis and tapping techniques, I have been able to drive much further distances than I ever imagined possible. It has in many ways been life changing and I now realise how debilitating my anxiety has been.
Thank you Paul for all your help
